Salesforce.com is looking to hire Database Engineer to join the Database Service Reliability team with Database Cloud. Working closely with counterparts in the Infrastructure, and R&D organizations, Site Reliability, this organization provides a global team of engineers monitoring cloud database service availability and ready to swiftly repair any service-impacting issues. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, in a follow-the-sun model, the Database Service Reliability team keeps the Salesforce cloud and our customers protected.
As a Database Engineer, you will enjoy the challenge of solving complex data guard issues. This is an opportunity with a cutting edge team focused on continuous availability via service resiliency, destructive testing and self-healing implementations. This engineer will be part of a growing team in Salesforce with highly visible and impactful projects in DR availability and site-switch solutions, demonstrating strong collaboration skills, effective communication, and technical ability. He or she will represent the Database Cloud/Data Guard Excellence Scrum team in the organization in cross-functional meetings and help drive decisions related to our database platform procedures and practices. Also key to this position will be a deep focus on automation in a secure, high-performance, highly available (99.999%) and fully resilient infrastructure across multiple data centers. This engineer should be most familiar with Oracle Data Guard where we ensure high availability, data protection, and disaster recovery for enterprise data. Data Guard provides a comprehensive set of services that create, maintain, manage, and monitor one or more standby databases to enable production Oracle Databases to survive disasters and data corruptions. This engineer will be part of key infrastructure to support current infrastructure and future projects. In order to scale, we need to design, build robust orchestration and monitoring engines at scale. You will be working with a group of highly specialized and dedicated engineers.
Contribute to our continuous database availability, via execution of best practice database backup, restore and recovery procedures.
Perform complex root cause Analysis of problems and subsequently, make and implement recommendations to prevent future occurrences or customer impact.
Define, develop and deploy system monitoring requirements/thresholds as well as corrective actions. Improve the system reliability via predictive analysis.
Collaborate with and provide detailed feedback to internal/External Database cloud stakeholders on resiliency initiatives.
Manage systems failure risks: critical change review, validation.
Identify, design and develop self-healing responses to production database issue.
Identify and write tools that will help automate common and critical tasks.
Ability to work a shift designed to provide database engineering support on the weekday/Weekend(Oncall), follow the Sun Model.
Design, build, automate and deploy highly available, robust, resilient and secure database solutions.
Document all operational processes and procedures to optimize support and management of deployed systems - demonstrate proficiency in establishing repeatable processes.
BS/BA Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
At least 5-8 years experience as an Oracle RDBMS Engineer for mission critical systems.
Strong Technical skills on Oracle RAC administration and advanced troubleshooting is a must.
Strong Technical skills on Oracle ASM and advanced troubleshooting is a must.
In-depth knowledge and experience with Oracle RDBMS HA solutions.
Hands on operation of Data Guard failover and switchover and troubleshooting .
Hands on Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
Hands on experience in dealing with Database Corruptions issue, Rman Backup, restores and recoveries.
Strong Hands on Experience for Database Performance and Tuning.
In-depth knowledge and experience with Oracle SQL optimization strategies.
Strong Hands-on SQL performance tuning.
Experience programming in any applicable administrative language (shell, Perl, Python,Java) is a must. Candidate with Python skills is preferred.
PL/SQL programming experience.
Oracle 10G & 11G/11gR2 experience.
Strong Linux systems administration concepts.
ITIL knowledge and Certification would be a plus.
Candidate should be able to start work early in the morning.
Familiarity with ITIL service operations, service transition and service design principles.
Excellent communication skills and a great team player.
Ability to learn quickly and deliver high quality code in a fast-paced, agile team environment.
Good understanding of Storage and SAN technology.
