About Us

Technical writers at Salesforce produce documentation that helps customers engage with and get the most out of our products and services. We work closely with engineers, product managers, and other writers in an Agile development environment. We’re nerdily passionate about creating the best docs for our customers, and our definition of docs is broad.

  • We create interactive training (https://trailhead.salesforce.com/en), in-app assistance, internal engineering documentation, help, developer and implementation guides, presentations, blogs, reference documents, and videos for administrators, end users, developers, data center hardware planners, and cloud service and infrastructure engineers.

  • Based in San Francisco, we’re also spread around North America and India. Shout out to Brooklyn, Rhode Island, Virginia, Florida, Seattle, Portland, rural eastern Oregon, Fresno, San Diego, Vancouver, and Hyderabad!

  • We’re serious about the stuff a doc team should be serious about—like developing a smart content strategy and constantly looking for new and better ways to get our users the info they need when and where they need it—and are equally serious about having fun. Our ideal team member:

  • You have 2+ (associate) to 10+ (Lead+) years of technical writing experience

  • Has experience making challenging, complex ideas, concepts, and tasks understandable and appealing to diverse audiences. Maybe that means you have past experience as a software engineer, technical or marketing writer, or maybe it means you come from the world of teaching, curriculum development, scientific journalism, or some other realm where engaging an audience with compelling content and storytelling is absolutely essential.

  • Has technical experience that might include:

  • Cloud platforms and services, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS (AWS, Azure, Google)

  • Datacenter hardware and operations

  • Cloud security and compliance

  • IDEs, Web services technologies, APIs, SDKs, and object-oriented programming

  • Source control software

  • Writing code in languages like Java, C#, and JavaScript

  • Has a creative side. We’re looking to push the envelope on authoring engaging and inspiring text that gives our users moments of delight without irritating them. Your creative writing degree finally will come in handy.

  • Knows that being a technical writer involves way more than just putting fingers to keyboard. It also involves digging into what you’re writing about so you understand not just how it works, but why it matters to the people using it; serving as the voice of our users when collaborating with scrum teams; figuring out the best way to serve our customers; and finding ways of connecting with the folks who use our docs to get their feedback.

  • Has the flexibility and openness to adopt our team’s style, processes, and practices, but isn’t afraid to suggest improvements that will benefit our writers, our collaborators, or our customers.

  • Is an excellent juggler. Bonus points if you can literally juggle, but what’s most important is that you’re able to handle multiple tasks, projects, and initiatives at the same time while also keeping your cool.

  • Really enjoys working closely as part of a team, and has the people and communication skills to do that well, and can also carve out focused time in a busy day to get work done independently.

  • Loves writing for a variety of technical audiences—from admins to developers. You might have a favorite audience, but you can write content that's engaging and informative for anyone.

  • Knows how to gracefully accept feedback without taking it personally. Many folks across Salesforce, particularly executives, have strong opinions about the experience we present to customers. You’ll need to know when to push back and when to adopt.

It’s fantastic if you also happen to have experience with the tools, technologies, and practices we use on the doc team, such as:

  • Source control software such as Perforce

  • Confluence

  • An XML editor like Oxygen

  • DITA/structured writing

  • Peer editing

  • The Agile approach to development

OUR CURRENT OPENINGS

Senior Technical Writer, Core Engineering

Salesforce Core Engineering powers all application development at Salesforce TMP with leading-edge services, tools, and frameworks. As a writer for the Kernel Cloud in Core Engineering, you'll dig deep into the machinery that runs the Salesforce platform, and write documentation that helps our engineers design and build new features. You'll write and edit material for high-level overviews, technical specs, and task-based developer guides, working with abstract concepts and forging concrete examples. You'll also contribute to newsletters, blogs, influence internal content strategy, and occasionally write customer-facing documentation. In short: you'll write for customers both inside and outside the company.This role is a great opportunity for someone who wants the big picture but is also curious about how things actually work under the hood at Salesforce. You'll plan and maintain your own backlog of content deliverables, manage stakeholder expectations, and come up with innovative solutions to create and host documentation. You'll work with engineers, data modelers, product owners, and whomever else knows the material. You'll also have the opportunity to drive and influence content strategy and contribute to internal communications at Salesforce.

CRM Staff Technical Writer

We're looking for a senior writer for the CRM Infrastructure Cloud (formerly known as the Database Cloud). You'll work closely with the CRM Infra leadership and the teams involved in developing and supporting the data layer of Salesforce. As the writer for this cloud, you will:- Document CRM Infra Cloud services for all TMP.- Communicate about new and updated services to the cloud, TMP leadership, external customers, and .- Work closely with the Salesforce Database team on everything from docs for on-boarding new hires to developer guidelines.- Understand how CRM Infra Cloud services are deployed and maintained in production data centers and ensure this information is properly documented.- Work with teams such as the DB Infrastructure Quality and Org Migration teams to understand and document their services.
