Salesforce is looking for a Senior/Lead/Principal Engineer to join the Performance Operations team leading the evolution of our performance operating model especially as we move from first-party data centers to the public cloud. The team is responsible for managing and oversight of the performance of the application—and driving alignment across performance teams and engineering management. The successful candidate will partner with teams throughout our organization, working especially closely with the SRE’s, Performance Engineering, and Product Development teams. Together, we'll implement processes that support how Salesforce performance is managed, enabling low-touch and highly trusted models of delivery, recoverability, and scale.

You’ll Accomplish This By

  • Partnering with performance engineering teams to define ownership roles and responsibilities that ensure operational excellence, performance efficiency, and the trust that Salesforce is known for

  • Partnering with service owners so they understand and embrace performance testing at the service level as part of the move to CI/CT/CD - Continuous Integration/Testing and Deployment

  • Driving the strategy for new and existing monitoring, alerting, and visualization tools so that service owners and performance teams can accurately gauge and swiftly act on performance metrics

  • Influencing through analysis, training on best practices and engagement across engineers, architects and engineering management

  • Evangelizing software architecture best practices, including supportability, scalability and performance

  • Continually expanding your knowledge of the company, its products, and our Salesforce organization so that you can lead the evolution of the organization’s services operating model

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • Strong problem-solving and written/verbal communication skills that you use to bring about real change

  • An understanding of cloud infrastructure and operations in AWS or GCP

  • 5+ years of demonstrable tooling experience on an agile development team

  • A talent for arbitrating technical infrastructure discussions and making challenging calls

  • The ability to empathize with engineers' pain points and help to train them on performance best practices

  • The ability to analyze performance-related issues and work across the Technology organization to develop solutions to ensure service resiliency

  • You will continue to work to automate the detection and resolution of recurring performance issues in the production environment.

  • Help to automate performance operations by developing software applications, tooling and API Integrations to connect disparate/distributed systems

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in support of distributed systems, with Linux/UNIX administration and internals knowledge

  • Experience in some of the following programming languages: Python/Java/C++, good knowledge of bash scripting

  • Good knowledge of basic large-scale Internet service architectures (DNS, HTTP, Load Balancing, etc.)

  • Experience in container based architectures: Docker/ Kubernetes etc.

  • Strong understanding of monitoring implementations and administration

  • Experience in a role with hands on complex Technical Problem Solving and troubleshooting

  • Past experience in Incident Management and good understanding of ITIL

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related disciple or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Python certification

  • Red Hat Certification

  • AWS/GCP/Azure building or architecture for services
