Everyone who wants to change the world should have the tools and technology to do so. Technology is the most powerful equalizer of our time, providing access to data, knowledge, and—above all—connections. Salesforce.org gets our technology in the hands of nonprofits and educators so they can connect with others and do more good. As a social enterprise, the more missions our technology supports, the more we invest back into technology and communities, creating an endless circle of good.

If working every day to support this vision sounds like something you’d be interested in doing, then we’d like to talk to you. The Salesforce.org Product Delivery Team is looking for a talented, self-directed, technical writer who is passionate about both documentation and improving the state of the world. This is an amazing opportunity to have impact with thousands of nonprofits, while working on the best platform for building change-related business applications. The team is one where self-directed individuals thrive, and where your own vision for increasing the impact of social change through user-friendly documentation can be realized.

The Documentation writer will be responsible for researching, developing, writing, owning and maintaining nonprofit and higher education product-related, end-user documentation, and potentially more developer-oriented documentation (such as ERDs, API docs, and so on). Duties will include managing documentation processes, soliciting and engaging customer feedback on documentation, standardizing and maintaining UI look and feel for documentation, and constructing additive content for all aspects of a product: code to UX . Chief among this additive content will be instructional material for Trailhead—Salesforce’s online, gamified learning system. The most qualified candidates will be familiar with Trailhead, its philosophy, its structure, and the unique voice it uses to communicate with our end users.

This position will require working in a small team of individuals focused on development and production, so experience with a software or like-product development team is paramount. (And obviously, if you have Salesforce experience, that’s the best!) Assignments may vary between nonprofit and higher education projects, and thus the ability to pivot rapidly between various projects is also a crucial skill for this position. The role will report to the Senior Director of Documentation and be a key member of a small and innovative technology team.

Minimum Requirements :

  • 2-5 years of experience writing end-user technical documentation for a wide range of audiences

  • Ability to own complex documentation projects with minimal supervision

  • Great people and communication skills, and a desire to interact directly with nonprofits and higher ed institutions

  • Proven ability to write for general audiences, as well as more traditional technical audiences

  • Strong content strategy skills with an emphasis on what’s best for the user

  • Focus on quality and details and ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Excellent problem solver and strong team player

Preferred Requirements :

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and the Trailhead learning system

  • Ability to produce developer-oriented documentation (API documentation) in addition to end-user documentation

  • Experience strategizing and developing technical documentation architecture

  • Experience with various forms of documentation delivery technologies, including DITA/XML and HTML

  • Experience with documentation data analysis, including traffic reports, user satisfaction ratings, and SEO

  • Experience delivering and managing collaborative documentation (such as deliverables with multiple authors and community contributions)

  • Experience with agile development methodologies

  • Experience with video and image editing software

  • Experience working directly with nonprofits and/or higher ed institutions

Position location is flexible for the right candidate.
