The SMTS, Performance Engineering will be responsible for applying performance engineering principles and tooling to facilitate a discipline of performance and scalability in Salesforce.org's products used by tens of thousands of nonprofit and education organizations around the world. This work empowers such organizations to do more with the Salesforce platform by improving our application performance, helping our customers and partners better predict performance, and ensuring scalability for large data volume scenarios.The Senior Member of Technical Staff, Performance Engineering requires someone with a strong sense of how to piece together what is currently available as well as when and how to build new tools where none exist to fulfill a need. This role also requires a philosophical commitment to building scalable solutions that are easily repeated for new projects and that can efficiently grow with bigger projects.The SMTS, Performance Engineering will report to our PMTS, Release Engineering and be a key member of a small and innovative technology team building tooling to empower Salesforce.org's product development teams.Primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated performance tests that run as part of our regular release cycle to provide a snapshot of the performance and scalability of our products

  • Determine and prioritize performance testing plans for areas including: browser performance, HTTP load testing, data loads through Salesforce API's, Apex limits, and the impact of customer's custom metadata

  • Investigate and recommend the best tools for managing our performance testing and analysis

  • Work with developers to help identify and prioritize optimizations to enhance product performance

  • Work with product managers to develop and run specific customer performance scenarios. This requires being or becoming comfortable with basic Salesforce development areas such as Apex, Salesforce API's, and Lightning as well as general Salesforce administrator tasks

Secondary responsibilities will include:

  • Spread awareness of performance considerations and best practices as an active participant in the Salesforce.org internal, partner, and customer communities

  • Provide expertise and knowledge performance engineering on Salesforce by building relationships with relevant teams at Salesforce

  • Help maintain internal and public facing documentation for release engineering tooling

Required Skills

  • Experience creating and implementing a process for regular assessment and monitoring of Salesforce application performance or applications built on a similar enterprise software platform

  • Experience with HTTP load testing tools (LoadRunner, JMeter, etc) or experience with Python based automated testing such as Selenium and Robot Framework

  • Experience building, maintaining, and automating data sets for large data volume testing

  • Experience creating custom reports and dashboards with Splunk or similar log analysis tools

  • Experience with query plan analysis in SOQL or SQL

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent work experience

Desired Skills

  • Expert knowledge of Salesforce platform performance analysis and best practices

  • Experience with Python

  • Experience with Salesforce administration and development using Apex and Lightning

  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, education administration, and open source projects

  • Familiarity and experience with Salesforce.org products such as NPSP, HEDA, and SAL
